Steve's story

NSW, October 2021

When Steve was first diagnosed with sleep apnea 10 years ago, he ignored it. But a few years later, his wife convinced him to start CPAP therapy; it has changed his life.

It was Barry’s wife Margaret who spurred him into action to seek treatment from his doctor for what turned out to be sleep apnea. According to Margaret, Barry’s snoring was legendary! And he was known to fall asleep even in the middle of a conversation. Since starting on treatment, Barry has shared his therapy knowledge with many of his friends, with some great success stories in alerting others to sleep apnea and its symptoms.

Brian initially underwent exceptionally painful throat surgery to combat his sleep apnea — but it was not successful. He is now on positive airway pressure therapy, and uses an S9 device. Brian is a very energetic and dynamic personality with plenty of get up and go. As a successful businessman, he travels overseas regularly for work and leads a full and active life.

Diana didn’t fit the usual stereotype of a person with sleep apnea. But she couldn’t ignore her constant tiredness. A sleep test revealed that she in fact, had quite severe sleep apnea. After starting therapy, Diana feels an enormous improvement in her energy levels and has even managed to reduce the appearance of the dark circles under her eyes that had plagued her for years.

After a serious car accident with his wife Sue in the vehicle, Kevin couldn't ignore his snoring and daytime sleepiness any longer. He had nodded off at the wheel on a 15-minute car trip in the middle of the day. He was scared and sought to get some answers. Kevin shares his transformation after being diagnosed with sleep apnea and then prescribed positive airway pressure therapy.

“For about the last decade I have felt tired. No matter what time of the day or what day of the week, if you asked me how I felt my answer would be "tired". I have had a constant dull headache and tension. I would close my eyes and massage my temples and apply pressure to my eyelids/ eyeballs with my fingers. This would bring a small amount of relief but it would be short lived.”
